About Me

Welcome Nomad, thanks for stopping by. I’m an ex-middle school special education teacher. I love Jesus, and a few of my favorite things are potato chips, coffee, and dogs.

MY STORY

Hi, my name is Elsie and I recently quit my job as a special education teacher to become a full time entrepreneur. The last three years of my life were filled with immense joy. I was accomplishing the goals I’d set and life was good. I had a great job, and was surrounded by amazing people. It wasn’t until my health started to decline that I began to realize that I wasn’t living the life I’d envisioned.

Instead, I’d settled for the things society had told me I should want. You know, the things. All the things that tie you to one place – the car, the apartment, the must have gadgets, kitchen appliances etc. The more I thought about it, the more it became clear that there would be no better time in my life to create the life I want, and to actually live it.

I’ve always had a desire to see the world. It started with the first trip we took as a family to go see Chania River Falls and to visit the Blue Post Hotel. The trinkets we received as reminders of the trip were a bonus, but the car ride was the icing on the cake.

Even though it seemed like the car ride went on for days, I didn’t want to miss anything. I remember my head swiveling back and forth as I tried to absorb everything. As all the colors, sounds, emotions, and snippets of conversation filtered in I felt such peace.

WHY I’M HERE

Years later, multiple road trips in various parts of the world under my belt, and the time came to adult. Society dictated that I put my wanderlust in a box and save it for “retirement”. I went to school and got bachelor’s degree, then a masters degree. I had started out my career in the corporate world, so teaching was supposed to be the thing I did that brought me a sense of fulfillment. It did, until it didn’t.

I  was still looking for that sense of peace I got on that first trip. That sense of complete joy that comes from being on the open road. Two and half years into teaching full time and it became clear that my calling to teach wasn’t meant to be confined to a building so here we are.

I’m sharing my journey in the hopes that someone will learn from it. Making the choice to start over isn’t easy, but it is worth it. I’m still not traveling full time as I would love to, but I’m open to whatever comes my way. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘it’s not the destination that’s important but the journey’. So far the journey has been one heck of a roller coaster ride, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you see me as I wander along, stop by and say hi. Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, then tell a friend to tell a friend…. so we can all be friends.

See you out there.

Love and light,

E.
